Old Forester releases a special bourbon related to the film Kingsman: the golden circle, and as Eggsy’s reward for saving the world at the end of the first Kingsman movie, we’re excited to try it out. Statesman Bourbon, as it’s called, isn’t just a reconditioned Old Forester bottle – it’s a special selection of premium Old Forester typical bourbon.
The barrels used to make Statesman come from the “hottest places in the warehouse,” which is usually the top floor. In the summer in Kentucky, the upper storeys of warehouses can reach 120 degrees causing much more evaporation than you might otherwise expect, but it can also derive a lot more flavor from the wood, which expands under conditions. warmer.
Having not tasted the whiskey, we assume they are telling the truth in the tasting notes by using the word “intense” to describe it. Other notes include a “bold flash of pepper, cinnamon bark, sharp citrus.” Master Distiller Chris Morris apparently wanted to capture the taste buds’ version of this:
The statesmen have a mashed rye bill, as you would expect from Old Forester, with 18 percent rye, 72 percent corn and 10 percent malted barley – the typical profile of the distillery. Statesman is bottled 95 proofs, possibly to make it a little more palatable. The film-related bourbon, after all, is meant to reach people who don’t typically drink bourbon, so it was never going to be a barrel-proof product. And at $ 55, it won’t hurt taste buds or wallets.
Plus, they paid us the respect to bring out something that wasn’t flavored. It wouldn’t have been very … gentlemanly.
