The Dorton Arena concerts — a longtime NC State Fair tradition — will not take place for the second year in a row. But visitors can still listen to live music in other areas of the fairgrounds.

“This change was to make more use of the arena area for more of the day during the fair instead of just nightly concerts,” said Heather Overton, deputy press office manager for the State Fair.

Here’s what you need to know to find live music at the NC State Fair.

Homegrown Music Fest at the NC State Fair

The Homegrown Music Fest ensures that show attendees get their fix of live music.

There will be two stages with 50 different artists throughout the fair. Your daily entry ticket allows you to take advantage of the free entertainment.

All of the Homegrown Music Fest artists live in North Carolina, so drop by (and wear your dancing shoes!) to find your new favorite local artist.

The Heritage Circle Stagelocated near the Village d’antan, offers bluegrass music.

The waterfall music scenenear Dorton Arena, offers a mix of everything: rock, hip hop, latin, blues, jazz, country and more.

This year, live music will be played on the Heritage Circle stage for long hours: “It’s such a wonderful place at night, and we wanted to have more entertainment at night (in addition to Ember Fire Arts)”, Overton said.

Typically, the last band will play at 7 p.m. on weekdays and 8 p.m. on weekends.

Check the daily schedule at ncstatefair.org to find out which band or artist will be performing (and where and when) each day of the fair.
