Makeup Artist Shares Anti-Aging Ingredients to Get Rid of Dark Circles and Rejuvenate Eyes

It’s no secret that as we age, our skin begins to lose elasticity and sag.

It’s a completely natural and normal process, but one that can still make us feel self-conscious.

The first areas of the face that show signs of aging are the eyes.

From crow’s feet to droopy eyelids, you can be hit with visible signs of aging around your eyes as young as 20.

We all know how important a healthy skincare regimen is to not only keep our skin looking its best, but to feel it too.

But in addition to regular cleansing, toning and moisturizing, you also need to pay special attention to your eyes.

According to Gillian Stapleton, a leading Irish makeup artist and beauty expert, everyone should only use two ingredients to keep their peepers firm and shiny: hyaluronic acid and caffeine.

Gillian told RSVP Live, “Drinking caffeine has the opposite effect, but as an ingredient in your eye cream it will help with things like dark circles and puffiness.

“Meanwhile, the best time to use hyaluronic acid on the eyes is after washing your face. Pat it onto damp skin, let it dry, and it will lock in plenty of moisture.”

Another eye feature that changes as we age are our eyelashes. Like the hair on our head, it can start to thin or fall out, and your once-floating eyelashes can end up looking quite sparse.

Although there are many eyelash serums on the market, Gillian recommends using a more natural method to help your eyelashes grow, as the ingredients in some serums may not be suitable for everyone.

An eyelash and eyebrow tint will also help improve the appearance of your eyes and highlight gray hairs.

Gillian explains: “Castor oil works quite well for growing eyelashes and eyebrows and it’s probably a little safer, and certainly cheaper, than using eyelash serums.

“Because you lose hair as you age, it’s important to tint your eyebrows and eyelashes if you can, as this will show gray or less obvious hairs and make them appear thicker.”

The makeup professional also recommends using an eyelash curler to enhance your lashes and be very careful if you get eyelash extensions.

Although convenient, extensions can be expensive to maintain and if you don’t remove them properly, you can pull out your natural lashes and end up with bald patches.

It’s not a good look, especially since eyelashes take longer to grow out with age.

Gillian advises using an eyelash curler to give your lashes a natural lift as it can give the illusion that they are much longer and thicker, even if this is not the reality.
